6. Is there a song of 3 that makes you sad? The Rolling Stones don't exactly make me sad...so...no.

7.What is your favourite lyric of 9? "If you don't eat yer meat, you can't have any pudding. How can you have any pudding if you don't eat yer meat?"

8. What is your favourite song by 1? D'yer Maker

9. How did you get into 8? I heard Creep on the radio and fell in love.

Badgerdaddy did this a while back. Here is mine:

1 Jimmy Buffett
2 Sonic Youth
3 Sleater-Kinney
4 Cat Power
5 The Scofflaws
6 The Pretenders
7 Nirvana
8 The Pixies
9 Cake
10 PJ Harvey

And now for the questions:

1. What was the first song you ever heard by 6? Probably "Brass in Pocket"

2. What is your favourite album of 8? Doolittle

3. What is your favourite lyric of 5? "I was stressed out all week so I went out to blow off steam and them I'm with a bunch of skin-head punks. We went to Uncle Walter's pub and in about an hour WE REEKED JUST LIKE A GANG OF STINKIN' DRUNKS! And I have no idea how I got home and if I drove, I'm so surprised that I'm not dead. But now I feel okay, and ready to do it all again thanks to that spider on my bed." Phew!

4. How many times have you seen 4 live? Never. Only have become a fan recently.

5. What is your favourite song by 7? Tough one. Probably "Love Buzz" or "Negative Creep" off of Bleach. Weird in that "Love Buzz" is the only song on that album not written by Cobain. May have been a cover.

6. Is there a song of 3 that makes you sad? Yeah, they sang a song called "Far Away" about 9/11 that always makes me sad.

7.What is your favourite lyric of 9?
"To me, coming from you,
Friend is a four letter word.
End is the only part of the word
That I heard.
Call me morbid or absurd.
But to me, coming from you,
Friend is a four letter word."

8. What is your favourite song by 1? "The Wino and I Know"

9. How did you get into 8? I was in college in the mid-late 80's. It was required listening.

10. What is your favourite song by 4? "Where is My Love?"

11. How many times have you seen 1 live? Holy crap...too many times to count. Let's see, I'd guess 25 or 30. Somewhere in that range.

12. What is a good memory concerning 2? At a show in NYC with a friend and his girlfriend. She had no clue it was coming, but she was sitting on this railing at Roseland when they played "Kool Thing". The whole audience turned into a mosh pit. I looked up and she was holding on like Billy Crystal during the stampede in City Slickers. Awesome!

13. Is there a song by 2 that makes you sad? Um, not really, but seeing them on Gilmore Girls this past season made me sad. What were they thinking?

14. What is your favourite song of 6? "Precious"

15. How did you become a fan of 10? Was at a Breeders show in NYC and saw a flier for PJ Harvey playing the next night at the same place. Without having heard one song I went to see her because I had just read an interview with Tanya Donnelly saying that all she really listens to nowadays is PJ Harvey. It was love at first listen.

Kat said...

What were 'they' thinking? What about you? Earl. Why were you watching Gilmore Girls? I'm very disappointed in you.

Kat said...

Oh and I forgot...Jimmy Buffet? Really? Interesting string of music you like.

And yes...where is that badger anyway...

yooo hoooo Badger!

One and only episode I have ever watched of that show. And only because I heard that Sonic Youth (well, Kim Gordon, Thurston Moore and their daughter) were appearing.

Wanted to see what the hell was going on. They played street musicians and they were the only hi-light of the show.

And let's not knock Jimmy Buffett (two t's there). Much better writer than he is usually given credit for and he puts the fun in live shows. If you've never been, you probably won't get it.

Neglected to comment on your list.

Good stuff! But I've never heard of The Be Good Tanyas. I'll track em down and give it a listen.

Pink Floyd should have been on my list as well. I always forget about them when listing my fave bands.

badgerdaddy said...

Speak of the devil, and he appears... Apologies for the absence, just considering ways and means to return.

Here's my list, for what it's worth...

1 Pearl Jam
2 Pixies
3 Faith No More
4 The Pipettes
5 Radiohead
6 Flesh For Lulu
7 Jane's Addiction
8 ACDC
9 Misfits
10 The Clash

1. What was the first song you ever heard by 6? I Go Crazy

2. What is your favourite album of 8?
Back In Black

3. What is your favourite lyric of 5? Dunno. Don't really have one and I'm not sure why they're in there. Can only assume I was influenced by Kat's list, as I only really like The Bends. Which is, legendarily and rather wonderfully, dedicated to the wonderful and sadly missed Bill Hicks.

4. How many times have you seen 4 live? None - yet.

5. What is your favourite song by 7? Three Days. Unbelievable song. Released on 7" single across both sides. What a band.

6. Is there a song of 3 that makes you sad? Just A Man

7. What is your favourite lyric of 9? "With just a touch of my burning hand, send my astro zombies to rape this land... Prime directive, exterminate the whole fuckin' race"

8. What is your favourite song by 1? Right now, it's Come Back from the latest album. Or Worldwide Suicide. Historically... maybe 'Down' or 'Corduroy'.

9. How did you get into 8? Listening to Hell's Bells 7" with Caty and Katherine way back in 88. Also seeing them at Donington, 1991. AC/DC, not Caty and Katherine...

10. What is your favourite song by 4? Pull Shapes. No song has made me want to dance so much in years. Check it out, you can buy it on iTunes...

11. How many times have you seen 1 live? Never. Yet. But I fucking well will, even if I have to save up to pay for them myself.

12. What is a good memory concerning 2? Hearing them for the first time and discovering that music is art,

13. Is there a song by 2 that makes you sad? Where is My Mind. Odd choice, but it does. Especially the live version on Death to the Pixies. Amazing.

14. What is your favourite song of 6? Golden Handshake Girl. What a record.

15. How did you become a fan of 10? Them being so fucking ace.

Earl...no no I wasn't bashing the Buffett (with tt...oops!) I just find your range in music interests very eclectic..tis all. There's a link to the The Junkie Song under question #14 that is a Be Good Tanyas tune. It only plays part of it though. They're a B.C. band. I was introduced to them about 6 years ago when I was working in a small lounge that had live entertainment 7 nights a week. Oh how I miss that place. Met a lot of cool people there. Maybe I'll blog about it. Had a chance for a sugar daddy there too. LOL!

Badger- Good to see ya! I totally agree with your choices for Pearl Jam tunes, particularily Corduroy. And Back in Black...that album ROCKS! Banged my head a few times to that one. LOL! We have a lot of music favs in common.

badgerdaddy said...

Good to be seen, always.

Was listening to Corduroy earlier - right now it tops my list of Songs I Would Kill To Sing Live. Mind you, I'd have to find guitarists as good as Gossard and the incredible McReady (or is it Macready?).

Back in Black is one of the most misunderstood albums of our time. It is pure, ballsy blues, and a great example of blues at its filthiest. But no one ever believes me when i say that...

Right, I'm drunk and off to bed. yay me!

Kat said...

I believe ya. I do I do. Love the blues. Going to see Eric Clapton on the 24th. CANNOT WAIT!

And I here ya about the singing. I used to play a silly little gig but I miss it. Love the singing.

...i haven't been drunk in months. It's a very bizarre experience. Particularily when you start adding in things like MORE hormones. I always thought we women had enough of those.

craziest wv ever!xscwmvbd
Too bad I can't repeat the f'd up font it's in too...looses some of it's effect without it.

badgerdaddy said...

I'm thinking hormones should either be banned or strictly limited, so only the exceptionally wealthy or the very famous can have them. I think that would be hilarious. Not that we'd have the inclination to laugh, of course.

Imagine how difficult poker tournaments would become sans hormones...

No, hang on, that's emotions.

Dammit, I'm sober and still making no damn sense.

My old band is currently discussing a reunion. That would be hilarious. Since we split, the drummer has been breeding and become an architect (or an architect's assistant), the guitarist has succumbed to mild psychosis and schizophrenia (and made it into an incredible positive - I have such admiration for him), and the bass player has eaten all the pies.

Which leaves me, and all I've done is expand somewhat. We all used to have long hair, too - I wonder how much of that is left...

Ooooh, check this bad boy out: ghuuqiym - Great wv.

But then it screwed up, and the new wv is the pleasant 'ekozii'. Could be a brand name for a virtual duvet.

Didn't happen again, let's try a third time...

wv: tgifkau
'Thank God It's Friday, Kevin's A Uterus'

Kat said...

You're a silly tit.
I love it!

I've always wanted to have a moment to delve into the mind of a schizophrenic(maybe that's what lsd is for). I used to know this guy named Martin who had it. He frequented the 24/7 music lounge I've mentioned I used to work at. He was one of the most talented people I've ever met. He had artist coming out of his wazoo! As long as he was on his meds that is. Unfortunate disease it is.

the wv gods are smiling on me for once! rtrnq

badgerdaddy said...

'tis truly a funny one. Difficult for people to deal with outside of it as it's so badly misrepresented by the media, in my opinion.

I shall have my vengeance on the WV gods for this one...

BTW, my band used to do an instrumental version of D'yer maker in order for me to be able to go to the bar.

As time wore on and the set list grew, we included four instrumentals. Excellent.

Our D'yer maker was a lead-in we used for Magic Johnson, so people could get all mellow then give it 'Does anybody want some...'

A friend pointed out to me recently that perhaps it was a tad ambitious for a pub band to have a 10-minute drum solo in the middle of the set. But hey, we had fun.

WV god I curse you! balphpje indeed!

Kat said...

That drum solo is the best part though!

Some of my best memories were of jamming one song straight into the next without the lyrics. It's amazing how many songs 'sound' alike when you take away the words.
Of course I say this and can't think of an example for the life of me....when I do I'll get back to ya...or maybe you can think of one??

sure..curse the wv gods...now you've made them mad and they're punishing us all- usdsvnh

Wasn't even going to post, but two things:

1) Badger - you used to cover "Magic Johnson"? Awesome! How was your version of "Nobody Weird Like Me"?

2) My wv: yygbqeh. The gods truly hate us.

badgerdaddy said...

The Gods are being lenient... nwayv

To torture the drummer, we started with d'yer maker, into Magic Johnson, THEN into the drum solo of his own making, then that led into Rock n Roll, Led Zeppelin. We insisted he play that like John Bonham too, who was left-handed. Hehehehehehehee. Served him right for being so good.

We didn't do Nobody Weird Like Me - we always started with The Greeting Song though, followed by Jane's Addiction's Been Caught Stealing. Crazy days.

And as for Pixies... We did Wave of Mutilation, which we always closed with - but always, always the UK Surf version, the really slow one. Gorgeous.

What fun we had. We even had a few gigs where we were quite good.

Last gig we ever did I went to the bar unannounced and they jammed the Shadows' Apache. That was fantastic.

Kat said...

Your set list rocks!

badgerdaddy said...

It was quite eclectic, but made use of our individual talents I think. Except I don't really have any! I can't sing for shit, and I'm not being modest. I really can't. But I can front a band easily enough I guess, because then it's just making it a good and fun experience for an audience. I can do that.

My favourite song of ours (though I loved the adrenaline that came with hearing the first chords of Greeting Song), was an original composition. My dad's a bit of a drinker, see, so our bass player penned 'My Dad's Iron Liver' about him...

Classy, no?

I'm thinking of blogging again. Big time.

I was in the pub last night and bumped into two lay-dees from the running club - and it turned out one of them had been in South America with her husband for six months or so and while there had read the blog - and when she met me she guessed it was me. How bizarre is that??

Kat said...

Wow...she figured that out? That's amazing. 6 degrees of separation is a creepy thing.

Please come back and blog again.

PS...we had a few originals too that I wrote. I miss music. It's not as fun playing by my lonesome. I know a guy (all the way back to kindergarten!) who still plays in a band. He's always asked me to play with him. Haven't seen him in a while. Maybe I should give him a ding.

badgerdaddy said...

Sorry, memory was hazy as I was already drunk when I met them; they asked if I usually drank at the Dragon, and I said yes, and they asked if I ever go to the Fleece, and I said not really, then explained why - I had a blog, and I may have said some honest things about the pub and that I may or may not be welcome in there...

Anyway, from there, she said 'Oh, was your blog about blahdey blahdey blah?'

Sorry about that. I just didn't remember what actually happened until yesterday!

PS: Yes, phone that man. Bands are a fun thing, with the right people.
